Amazon Route 53 Announces NAPTR Record Support and DNS Query Test Tool

Posted on: Aug 30, 2016

Today we are announcing two new enhancements to Amazon Route 53’s DNS service.

We now support Name Authority Pointer (NAPTR) resource record sets. NAPTR resource record sets are used by Dynamic Delegation Discovery System (DDDS) applications to convert one value to another or to replace one value with another. For example, one common use is to convert phone numbers into SIP URIs.

The new DNS Query Test Tool enables you to simulate DNS queries against resource records sets in your hosted zones and see the value that Amazon Route 53 returns. For geolocation and latency resource records sets, you can also simulate requests from a particular DNS resolver and/or client IP address to find out what response a client with that resolver and/or IP address would receive from Amazon Route 53. To try out the DNS Query Test Tool, navigate to your hosted zone and select the Test Record Set button. To auto-populate the tool with a record’s values, first select the resource record set you want to test and then select the Test Record Set button.
